"Very Happy with The Duxton"
Booked the Duxton via their website for NZ$140, a run of house room. We arrived via the airbus which dropped us on the other side of Myers Park (2 minute walk), at 7am, but not only did they allow us to check in, we were upgraded to a spa room! Very comfortable room, with a kitchen area and washer/dryer, fabulous view over the park from our balcony, which was also quiet enough for us to sleep with the balcony doors open.
The room was starting to look a little tired, but was very clean. The public areas are very smart, and there is internet access (for a fee) off the lobby. Didn't use the small pool on the terrace, but it looks nice from the balcony. A pleasant 5 minute walk to the city centre.

"very pleased"
We stayed in room 518, on the fifth floor over looking the park and mosque (yes that is not in the photos!) no early prayer bell which was good as we didnt wake till 9.30am
Had a 1 bedroom suite with spa and kitchenette.
Very clean and tidy. Nice plasma tvs in lounge and bedroom.
Had been upgraded as the travel agent who booked us charged double what we could have paid if we had booked direct with the hotel. I had complained but they just ignored me but the hotel didnt and made a point of making us feel special by unpgrading to a suite and a free bottle of pinot noir.
I think that is thanks to Fred.
Didnt have a view of the sky tower, but a nice one of the park and although room was warm,...with the doors/ windows opened it was nice and cool and not noisy (no road traffic as such)
had a walk through myers park to queen st which was lovely. It is in a leafy area and much better I felt than some others we passed in queen st. The lobby is very italian..nothing big and grand and just a few lounge seats as you walk in. I like that sort of boutique style hotel...some might not.
Bathroom was clean and pleasant..although tissues and a misty mirror are things that you think would be there/ wouldnt happen only cos it is "posh"
Nice and clean and lots of little things to take..even mouth wash.
washing machine worked although took about an hour to work the dryer and then reaslised I didnt put the timer on so was just going around and around!
clothes eventually clean and dry about 5 hrs later!!
would stay there again, maybe with a view of sky tower next time. (that is all you would see as there are big oak trees in the way and you would only see it at the very end of the building..)
greys ave is very quiet.
I couldnt hear anyone next to us or above too..which I like, but could be because no one is there. Also room 518 (according to evacuation plan on door.. plans of rooms) doesnt actually have a room next to it, it is a cupboard so very quiet in deed.
Will be back., probably not with kids though...very 'adult' hotel,
elegant.
next time me and hubby go to auckland.
Might try their spa package

"Very impressed"
We booked a 1 bed penthouse which was excellent. We had a lounge area and kitchenette and the bedroom was upstairs and overlooked the lounge. There were 2 bathrooms. All for NZ$245 - not bad at all.
The hotel itself was relatively small and it is a bit of a walk from the centre (up a hill). But if you dont mind a bit of exercise its fine.
